Students will visit the shelter once a month to play with the young residents through games and planned arts and crafts activities. Younger residents look forward to these visits to interact and make positive connections with older youth. This gives our 5th and 6th graders a foundation in mentoring younger children.
The Family Shelter is located in Waukegan, IL where residents are housed as a family, on a temporary basis, as permanent housing is arranged.
Students will meet in the Oasis immediately after school, where they are served a light snack. We leave for PADS at 4:00pm and finish at 5:45pm. Students will then be dropped off at home by 6:30pm.
Students interested in registering for this program must turn in a permission slip. And if you have any questions about the program, feel free to contact David Gonzalez or Mimi Hahn for more information at 847.835.7623 or contact(at)gjhp.org.
