Theatre Thursdays!

Open to all middle school students, Theatre Thursdays, is a 3-month workshop where students can practice creating characters and building theatre skills while experiencing the fun of working in a creative ensemble. Activities include theatre games that exercise the body, voice and imagination. 

No prior theatre experience needed!

Instructor: Jan Slavin

Jan Slavin is a writer, singer, stand up comedian and teacher who brings her joy of theatre, music and performance to young students.

 

Jan creates a nurturing environment, where students' voices, ideas, creativity and collaboration skills 

can be applied to numerous life experiences. By accepting and including each individual within the group, we will encourage self confidence, creativity, concentration, communication, and trust. Fun is at the root of all of our theatre games, improvisations and other creative activities. 

 

Jan studied at the renowned Goodman School of Drama and teaches classes at CPS, The Music House and Marsha's Music as well as after-school programs around the city of Chicago. 

GJHP MISSION STATEMENT

The Glencoe Junior High Project (GJHP) is a parent-led, non-profit organization that has sought to engage Glencoe middle school students into the community since 1973. In order to carry out our mission of fostering socially aware, civic-minded and community-oriented individuals, we offer Glencoe 5th-8th grade students, opportunities to volunteer in their community, attend social activites and events, perform on stage, as well as access to a youth drop-in center in Glencoe's Central School.
