CHILDREN'S BOOK DRIVE FOR BERNIE'S BOOK BANK

BINS LOCATED AT CENTRAL SCHOOL

OCTOBER 3-17, 2023

For our first service project of the year, GJHP is hosting a Children’s Book Drive to benefit Bernie’s Book Bank, October 3 to 17. Donation bins will be located in the lobby of the main entrance to Central School as well as in the Oasis.

Bernie’s Book Bank provides free quality books to children in underserved areas so they can build personal libraries. Since 2009 they have distributed more than 24 million free books.

Reading is the most important skill a child needs, yet many lack access to books, especially books of their own. A child born into a middle-class family, has an average of 13 age-appropriate books in their home. But a child born into less fortunate circumstances, has only ONE book to share with 300 children in their neighborhood.

We ask that you consider donating new and gently used children’s books for birth-6th grade during our book drive. Children’s picture books, board books, recent non-fiction and chapter books are all appreciated. Please note, Bernie’s Book Bank cannot use activity books, coloring books, dictionaries, textbooks, religious books, or foreign language books other than Spanish. If you prefer to make a monetary donation, please follow this link to their webpage: https://secure.givelively.org/donate/bernies-book-bank.

Bernie’s Book Bank always needs books but now, even more. On September 6 they suffered damage to their warehouse in Lake Bluff from a fast-moving storm. Rain and falling debris damaged over 50,000 children’s books destined for children in the Chicagoland area. Please help us achieve our goal by donating new and gently used children’s books. For more information about Bernie’s Book Bank, visit www.berniesbookbank.org.
