Book Buddies

Book Buddies is a literacy program implemented by the Glencoe Junior High Project, which has 8 sessions on either Mondays or Wednesdays from 4:00pm-4:40pm at the Glencoe Public Library. The program runs in the fall and spring. Book Buddies pairs students in K-2nd grade with a 5th-8th grade buddy to mentor them in the area of literacy. Supervised by the GJHP Program Directors, and the Glencoe Library Staff, the objective of Book Buddies is to offer all participants an opportunity to develop personal connections and build reading skills by working with children of different ages.

GJHP MISSION STATEMENT

The Glencoe Junior High Project (GJHP) is a parent-led, non-profit organization that has sought to engage Glencoe middle school students into the community since 1973. In order to carry out our mission of fostering socially aware, civic-minded and community-oriented individuals, we offer Glencoe 5th-8th grade students, opportunities to volunteer in their community, attend social activites and events, perform on stage, as well as access to a youth drop-in center in Glencoe's Central School.
